How to turn website visitors into enquiries: a conversion basics guide
Most sites do not need more traffic first; they need to waste less of the traffic they already have. Four things usually account for the difference: clarity, proof, friction and follow-up.

Say what you do in one line
A visitor decides in seconds whether you solve their problem. Put what you do, who for, and where, at the top of the page in plain words. Cleverness costs enquiries.
Show proof you can stand behind
Real examples of work, honest descriptions of what you delivered and reviews in the customer's own words do more than any claim about being the best. Never invent numbers; they are the first thing people check.
Remove friction from the enquiry
- Ask for the fewest fields you genuinely need.
- Offer a phone number and email as well as a form.
- Make the page fast, especially on a phone.
- Confirm clearly what happens next, and when.
Follow up faster than you think you need to
Response speed is often the deciding factor when someone contacts three suppliers. An automatic acknowledgement plus a same-day reply wins work that better websites lose.
Make the next step obvious
Visitors should understand within seconds what you do, who it is for and what to do next. Use a clear headline, one primary call to action and repeat it at natural points down the page.
Remove distractions on key pages. Too many competing buttons and links lower the chance that anyone takes the action you want.
- Clear headline describing the outcome.
- One primary call to action per page.
- Short forms asking only what you need.
- Visible phone number and email.
Build trust quickly
People enquire when they believe you can help. Show genuine proof: real client reviews, examples of work, recognisable client logos used with permission and clear company details. Avoid vague claims you cannot back up.
Speed and accessibility are part of trust too. A slow, hard-to-read page loses visitors before they reach your form.
Follow up fast
The quickest reply often wins the work. Send an instant acknowledgement, route the enquiry to the right person and aim to respond properly within hours rather than days.
Track where enquiries come from and which pages they started on. That tells you where to invest in content and where to fix weak pages.
